  1. Bound and determined to catch up – apologies!

Gen 18 – I found it interesting that meat and milk were served together (modern-day Jewish rule against this?). God didn’t have to share His plan for Sodom with Abraham, but did. Abraham CONFRONTED God (v.22….)!

The commentary I refer to reminds us that our Lord still wants to commune with us, just in a different format than He did so with Abraham. And I loved this quote about the righteous dying with/for the sinners: “How then did Christ make intercession for transgressors? Not by blaming the Divine law, nor by alleging aught in extenuation or excuse of human guilt; but by pleading HIS OWN obedience unto death.”

Gen 21:1-7 God kept His promise! v.8-21 Sarah seemed to hold a lot of power and influence in the family dynamic! God took care of the weak, and so should we today!

Commentary points out that God used this episode to separate the future nations of Isaac and Ishmael for His purposes. Also that God will always provide us with our own “well of water” if we will just ask!

1 Peter 3:1-6 Although Genesis tends to depict Sarah as bossy, a little vindictive, doubting, etc., here she is held up as someone to emulate in her treatment of her husband. I love the Message translation of v.4-6: 4-6 “Cultivate inner beauty, the gentle, gracious kind that God delights in. The holy women of old were beautiful before God that way, and were good, loyal wives to their husbands. Sarah, for instance, taking care of Abraham, would address him as “my dear husband.” You’ll be true daughters of Sarah if you do the same, unanxious and unintimidated.” The word at the end sure describes what we read of Sarah 🙂

Finally, the MHCC points out: “A true Christian’s chief care lies in right ordering his spirit”. Truth!
