In His Presence – January 9

Today’s Scripture:

Matthew 4:12-17

Remember, we are reading through the Gospels to learn more about  Jesus’ personality.  Why not highlight the verses that offer some information about his character?  We’ll be able to look back later and see an overview.

Also, don’t forget our goal of memorizing 2 verses per month.  I’m working on Matthew 6:31-33. (My children are working on just verse 33.)  Here’s a free card for your kitchen window or mirror.  There are 3 versions to choose from :  ESV, KJV, or HCSB

Finally, our In His Presence Family Connection begins tonight!

Every afternoon, I will post something for you to share with your family.  It may be a talking point, a short video, a Scripture to read, etc.

It will never take more than 20 minutes for you to do.  Twenty minutes will allow your tots to hang in there and and your teens to stick around.

Be sure to subscribe to get the daily post delivered to your Inbox.

See you here later today!

  1. God had a plan for Jesus’ life here.

He just obeyed, day after day.

Sometimes we can be so focused on the “big plan” and miss the every day plan; the small directives, which turn out to collectively be “the plan!”

God wanted Jesus to go to Capernaum. There was confirmation by the prophet Isaiah (quoted in today’s verses).

    He obeyed.

He walked from Nazareth to get there; His sandal-ed feet walking along the dusty road. Twenty miles; about seven hours if the path is straight and He didn’t stop. Imagine the scene. Jesus walking along; looking up at the sky; around at his surroundings; stopping to rest; taking in a deep breath of air. Real life. Every day. Ordinary. Living.

He didn’t rent out an amphitheater or market Himself. He just walked from Nazareth to Capernaum and dwelt. His message was simple, Repent.

Capernaum was home to Peter, Andrew, James, John, and Matthew. God knew what He was doing. This is where some of His disciples would be called. He orchestrates everything for us to accomplish His plan for us.

We just get up each morning, put on our sandals, and walk obediently where He says to go, and do what He says to do – today.
